Barry Essig is the Vice Chairman of Crestmark Bank. Prior to joining Crestmark, Barry held positions as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Spectrum Financial Corporation – a wholly owned subsidiary of Wachovia Bank. In his years before Spectrum, Barry served as Senior Vice President of The CIT Group/Commercial Services where he was responsible for the unit’s northeast “traditional” factoring portfolio.
From 1989 to 1994, Barry served as Senior Vice President and Manager in New York of Barclays Commercial Corporation – the factoring subsidiary of Barclays Bank. From 1970 to 1989, he was Director, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of National Westminster Bank’s factoring operation in the United States.
Barry has also held account executive and credit managerial positions at Bankers Trust Factors and CIT. He is active in the Commercial Finance Association where he presently serves as a director, is a past member of the executive committee, and a past chairperson of The Entrepreneurial Finance and Factoring Committee, The International Trade Services Committee, and the Factoring Committee. He has served as a director, a member of the executive committee, and Treasurer of the British American Chamber of Commerce. Barry has also served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association, and as a director of the New York Credit and Financial Management Association. He was a member of the United States Department of State Advisory Committee on Private International Law and its study groups on international financial leasing and international factoring.
Mr. Essig attended the College of the City of New York, and the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Dartmouth College. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of financial-related subjects, and has authored a number of articles on domestic and international factoring and finance.
